Joint Dislocation Treatment

When two bones separate where they meet at a joint, it is called a dislocation. The joint may be momentarily deformed and immobilized, and the injury may be excruciatingly painful. Shoulders and fingers are the most frequent sites for dislocations, although they can also happen in the elbows, knees, and hips. The cause is frequently a fall or blow, occasionally while participating in a contact sport. The severity of the injury and the location of the injured joint will determine how the dislocation is treated. Rest, ice, compression, and elevation comprise the first line of defense against a dislocation. Following this therapy, the displaced joint may occasionally heal naturally. If this doesn't happen, your doctor may utilize a variety of treatments. Your doctor might make an attempt to realign the joint. To help you relax and allow the muscles around your joint to do their job, you can be given a sedative or anesthesia. You'll probably need to wear a splint or sling for a few weeks to immobilize the joint if your doctor was able to realign your bones.
